Topic: SafariCom IPO - StartingOver  [6,634 views | 61 replies]

Assuming SafCom Ipo comes through, just about how much do people think it will be floated for?  Given the speed at which the refunds of K-Re are coming through,I think it will be worthwhile to put a huge ammount (say about 500k) on this one to capitalize on the meagre allocations expected.  Thereafter one can move on to the secondary market with the refunds if need be.  Does anyone think this is a good idea?

Unconfirmed vybe is that this IPO closes by mid-December 2007(15/12/07). Hope the next few weeks prove this.

Murenju, you do not seem to be clear'' i believe you meant MJ says it won't take place 'till 2008. well there is no where he says that, but rather the trading would commence in 2008.

MJ still insists that the IPO will not take place in 2008 while Kimunya says 2007.  Can someone clarify on this sticky hot  issue?

Michael Joseph represents the stake of Vodaphone and not TKL. This is a done deal. This will not happen under the Privatisation act. This means,it will be concluded this year!

Why don't they want to tell us who this Mobitelea is and how they acquired 10% of Safaricom?

Why is Kimunya in such a hurry to sell Safaricom while he ignores that simple question?

Don't you feel that something is being hidden from us?

Toboa and then we will give our blessings  to sell.

MJ was forthright on the IPO,it will never happen in the year 2007!! That cannot change at any rate.

I guess we’ll know soon. “Action of Safaricom IPO is expected to begin today” (22/10/07) “at 3 pm with transaction advisors who have already signed their contracts assembling at Safaricom House to draw a time table for the transaction.”

not really. he repeated what he said on thursday. he mentioned that the IPO will be done next year. the guy knows the politics of kenya can easily spoil this IPO. and he also said that if not handled well it may interfere with the safaricom brand. so he is keen to get it right and that according to him means doing it during peace times. so fyi the IPO will be done next year in the meantime you can buy the other shares

Jerimao,Michael Joseph said he was misquoted and meant that the listing on the NSE for start of trading is what will be on next year.

The CEO of safaricom said last friday that the IPO will be done next year period. he went further to state that no politician whatever his station in life will be able to change his mind. MJ said that he wants the IPO do be done right. for that matter he said he wont be rushed. Now remember MJ is the guy who 'forcefully' created safaricom from a politicaly controled tiny subsidiary to the best and most coveted company in east and central africa. going by MJs past,i dont think any one has any chance to force him to change his point of view. the only way the IPO can be done before elections is if and only if Kibaki postpones elections to february next year. SO that IPO is will definitely be only be done  by ODM

One requirement I recall is registeration with RBA - with a minimum of quite a few million in Ksh assets under management. Someone with all the actual information, enlighten all!

what is considered a Qualified institutional investor,we have a registered company and my assumption is that we automatically become QII's,i could be wrong,i dont want to be wrong when this IPO hits the shelves.

One other thing, are there brokers/dealers who deal better with this kind of accounts? or my current dealer will suffice?

Era,

Thanks that courts have finaly striked out the case, and our hopes for November remains,However,im just concerned when you say that no % will be given, just to have max,as far as i can recall, contracts have not yet been signed,no due deligence has been carried out by the lead adviser,i.e. no body knows how many shares and at what price to offer

Further, gava has to look friendly to "wanjiku" and fixing of max is allowing for more cds's which is night-mare to kengen  so far cause of communication requirement in the companies act,i mean kengen is spending over 10m in sending letters for AGM etc,how much will safcom spend if it nets 3m shareholder "remember amendment to that law will take at least 2 yrs going by our parliament practices"

Following that,i belief they shoul remove the 100 minmun shares plus % in any IPO rule, and have zero shares plus %,this method makes your 3,000 cds usesless hence safcom have less shareholder (imagine 1000 people each opening 300cds's and safcom sending letters to all cds holders, its just nightmare).

Assume you apply for 10,000 shares and oversucription is 3 times then you should get 0+25% of 10,000. This formula negates the logic for multiple cds.

03/10/07 - The High Court strikes out the case filed by three MPs seeking to stop the Safaricom IPO.

Reasons: Judge ruled that Safaricom is not PLC so can't issue orders to compel one to reveal its shareholding. Again,MPs told they filed their case too late and were blocked pursuance of the same case to any other level.
